Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Services

Environmental Sciences, Inc. (ESI) as a third-party Validation/Verification Body (V/VB) has three main roles, which are to validate projects, verify greenhouse gas emission reductions or removals, and assess/develop methodology components under the methodology approval process.

ESI’s validation and verification manual is to show our clients that the process used is consistent, impartial and transparent. The manual will also provide guidance in reviewing various methodologies to ensure they comply with the approval process.

  • Verification – Process for evaluating a statement of historical data and information to determine if the statement is materially correct and conforms to a specific set of criteria.
  • Validation – Process for evaluating the reasonableness of the assumptions, limitations and methods that support a statement about the outcome of future activities.
  • Sustainability – Environmental Sciences Inc. (ESI) works with clients to meet the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their needs.
  • Assess/Develop GHG Methodologies – Environmental Sciences Inc. (ESI) works with clients to assess current greenhouse gas methodologies and develop new methodologies as new technology evolves.

Environmental Sciences, Inc. is an applicant for accreditation by the ANSI National Accreditation Board (ANAB) to be a third-party GHG validation and verification body under the ISO 14065: 2020.

Conflict of Interest and Impartiality & Objectivity Statements

Impartiality & Objectivity

Threats to impartiality can include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Self-interest
  • Self-review
  • Familiarity (or trust)
  • Intimidation

ESI will design and conduct the validation/verification in a way that is objective and does not introduce bias.

Conflict of Interest

As a verification/validation body, ESI will do the following to avoid a potential
conflict of interest:

  • ESI will not use personnel that have an actual or perceived conflict of interest.
  • ESI will not validate or verify a greenhouse gas assertion from the same greenhouse gas project unless allowed by the appropriate program.
  • ESI will not validate or verify a greenhouse gas assertion where ESI’s consultancy provides support for the assertion.
  • ESI will not validate or verify a greenhouse gas assertion where ESI has a relationship providing consulting services to develop the assertion.
  • ESI will not outsource the review and issuance of the validation or verification statement.
  • ESI will not offer services that pose a threat to impartiality.
  • ESI will not state or imply a validation or verification simpler, cheaper, or easier, if a certain consultant was used.

ESI will perform validations and verifications of greenhouse gas assertions upon accreditation at both the project and organizational level for various sectors. Please find our sector list for ANAB by clicking on the following link.

Voluntary Carbon Offsets

Upon completion of the accreditation process ESI will participate in the following North American voluntary greenhouse gas programs.
